Comedy, satire, tragedy – it’s all here, in a story based on the incredible true events that changed two families forever. It all begins in the city of Yerevan, Armenia. Grigor Janoyan, a professor of agriculture at the University of Yerevan, dies from a freak accident. In accordance with Armenian tradition, the relatives bring the deceased into their home for the "viewing" for friends and family before the burial. The family, consumed with grief, fails to realize that the body on the dining room table is NOT Grigor! And as luck would have it, Grigor’s doppelganger is none other than Ruben Pashayan - head of Armenia’s organized crime families.
Wonderfully quirky (in the very best sense of the word), Big Story in a Small City is the type of entertainment sadly missing from today’s multiplexes, and EIFF is thrilled to share this film with festival audiences hungry for something a little different. WESTERN Canada Premiere!
